The wisdom of useless silence

When your boss or a coworker asks for information or a solution to a problem, don't feel pressured to have all the answers. Slow down and take time to organize your thoughts.

If you do have the solution, speak up. If you don't know the answer, or you need more information before you can respond, ask pertinent questions to determine the exact information that is needed. Whatever you do, don't ramble on just to say something. Unless you can offer solid, useful information, it's better to remain quiet.

I once had a teacher who gave out minus points for irrelevant information. I quickly learned to leave a space blank on a test rather than try to bluff an answer.

Learn to speak only when you have useful information, and others will appreciate your wisdom.

Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and he who speaks right is loved (Proverbs 16:13).
