The business of not doing business

With the rise of on-line banking, online shopping, and the continual push for more convenience, the temptation is strong for businesses to operate 24/7; that is, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. But that's not what God intended. He designed life to be cyclical and for our bodies to require rest. Studies have shown that lack of adequate rest contributes to heart attacks, strokes, and other medical difficulties. When we insist on working seven days a week, except for unusual circumstances, such as needing to pull a cow out of a ditch or responding to a fire, we are destined to burn out.

If we ignore God's commandment to rest on the Sabbath, our bodies and minds will gradually begin to fail. Our work will eventually suffer, and if we become disabled or die, we will be unable to work at all. Just as God chose to rest after Creation, so should we.

Keep the Sabbath, and keep working as God intended.

Then you will walk in your way securely, and your foot
will not stumble (Proverbs 3:23).

Scripture: Observe the sabbath day to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work (Deuteronomy 5:12-13).
